No Pants Subway Ride in Hong Kong, January 13, 2013

I participated in the first No Pants Light Rail ride in Charlotte, NC… I was thrilled to take part, as I have been following ImprovEverywhere for some years. The organizers did a good job of outlining the meeting point and route to be taken via a FB event. However, I was disappointed that they turned it into a charity event and did interviews about the event on local news channels prior to the ride. I felt it took away from the prank spirit of the ride. Not to mention, for such a small number of participants (50-ish), there was media cameras EVERYWHERE. I found this to be a little unnerving (it is one thing to do an improv prank that is caught on film… it is quite another to be plastered all over local news). Knowing the news cameras would be there deterred some of my professional friends from participating. Overall, it was a fun experience and I am looking forward to the next ImprovEverywhere event I can participate in!
Thanks for the report. Yeah, we do our best to keep the media people under control in NYC. And yeah, I noticed that CLT had a charity component added. Obviously a good cause is a good cause, but the No Pants Subway Ride has always been a completely agenda and message free event.

We didn’t have any media coverage this year, so our group was small, but fierce. People in Zurich are the cutest when trying to look as if they didn’t notice anything. ^^ 12 participants, about 0°C.

It was fantastic!
The Fifth Annual No Pants Subway Ride for Minneapolis had a total of 65 people, about the average.
We also had 8F temperatures with wind chills much colder than that when we stopped at Target Field in Downtown Minneapolis before riding back to the Mall of America.. (Are we the coldest city again?)
We had lots of media coverage, and lots of response online.
Bigger and better next year.
Phoenix had our fifth year of participating on our Light Rail (no subway here), and had 350+ people show up. We’ve taken to shaming the press if they show up and disrupt the ride – taking their pictures and tweeting about it. They don’t like it for some reason. Hmm.
Once we got rid of the nosy press, we had a great ride. We don’t have an extensive rail system so meet up mid-ride for a bite and a drink before taking the trains back to our starting locations. We had a healthy mix of new and veteran people, including a few former New York participants. The NYC vets laughed at the Phoenicians who thought our 50 degree “cold snap” was rough.

He had 15ºC and a bit of rain in Lisbon, but it was a blast. We had about 60 people (down from 80-120 in the last few years), but for the first time almost everyone went to the after-party. We don’t have a lot of images, since we didn’t really organize photo coverage, and (thankfully) the usual parade of journalists was absent, but here are some photos that a couple of riders managed to take:

This year only 27 Hamburgers came to the No Pants Subway Ride, blame it to the flu… Despite this fact and chill -3°C/30,2°F combined with the characteristic “Hamburg stiff breath” the participants represented a range from 9 months up to 64 years and one participant even came from Madrid. The ride started at the Airport (line S1), at the central station we switched to the just finished subway-line U4 and finished our mission at the not officially opened station “Hafen City Universität”. Almost the half of the participants joined afterwards the Hamburg No Pants Ferry Ride. As the whole mission produced much smiles, laughter and chatter, in short: happiness for the other subway-passengers, we are proud to yell out loud the third year in a row: “MISSION COMPLETED!”
